Dry Stone Walling

The practice of building stone structures (commonly walls) by piling stones on top of one another without using any other materials is known as Dry Stone Walling.

Dry Stone Walling is the ideal kind of building when there is an abundant supply of stone. They typically outlive mortared masonry buildings and have a longer lifespan (generally between 100 and 200 years) compared to other types of fencing.

Because there is no cement or mortar used to hold dry stone walls together, they are strong due to the weight of the stones and the craftsmanship of the craftsman who chose and assembled the stones.

It is highly recommended to dip seal the stone before putting them together. Sealing would increase the life of the stone and make them dirt resistant.

Water and frost can significantly damage Dry Stone Walls, it is recommended to dip seal the stone before installation and to yearly check for moss or any wild grass growth.
