  • Honed: Honing is a process in which the surface of the stone is buffed to give it an even and smooth appearance. It provides a matte finish, giving the stone a sleek and modern look and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.
  • Polished: In this, the naturally tough texture of the stone is ground to a smooth high gloss shine to achieve a mirror-like finish. It makes it an excellent choice for indoor applications like flooring and countertops.
  • Tumbled: This finish is achieved by tumbling the stone in a machine with abrasive materials, giving them a weathered and aged appearance. It is an excellent choice for creating a rustic or antique look.
  • Brushed: To get this finish a hard synthetic material or metal is brushed to the stone’s surface to give it a textured and matte look.
  • Sandblasted: This finish is achieved by blasting the surface of the stone with sand, giving it a rough and textured look. It is an excellent choice for creating a slip-resistant surface, making it ideal for outdoor applications like pool copings and patios.
  • Natural Split: This finish is achieved by splitting the surface of the stone along its natural seams, giving it a rugged and textured look.

Installation & Maintenance Tips

Limestone signifies sleek lines, subtle textures and modern minimalism. It’s a beautiful, versatile and long-lasting stone suitable for plenty of design applications in indoor and outdoor living spaces. To maintain the longevity and stunning appearance of Limestone pavers and tiles, proper installation and maintenance are essential.

Here are some tips for installing and maintaining Limestone:

Installation Tips

  • Prepare the surface: Ensure that your design space where Limestone will be installed is clean, level and free from rubble. A structurally sturdy base will lay a secure and stable foundation for your Limestone pavers or tiles and prevent stumbling due to uneven surfaces.
  • Use heavy-duty adhesive: A made-to-last glue is an important element when laying tiles over existing ones or on a wooden substrate. It holds the stone in place and avoids the tiles from shifting over time. Choose a high-binding adhesive suitable for Limestone installations for excellent and lasting results. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper mixing proportions and application steps.
  • Grouting: Select a grout specifically designed for Limestone. Avoid using acidic or harsh cleaners before you begin grouting to prevent damage to the stone’s surface. Ensure the tiles or pavers are well set, wait for a minimum of 24 hours after applying the adhesive for it to dry completely. After the grout application, scrape off the extra grout before it starts to set.
  • Sealing: Before and after grouting, apply a penetrating sealer specially designed for Limestone. Sealing forms a shield and safeguards the stone from stains, moisture soaking and any other type of damage. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions or installers’ recommendations for frequency of application. The general rule of thumb is every 2 years.
  • Allow for Natural Movement: Due to its innate characteristics, Limestone may expand and contract in response to variations in humidity and temperature. Leave proper and consistent spacing using a spacer for expansion joints to allow space for this movement.

Maintenance Tips

  • Clean Regularly: Sweep or vacuum your Limestone flooring regularly to keep it in top condition. Don’t let dirt or debris get accumulated on the surface. Occasionally, clean with a soft cloth or sponge and a pH-neutral stone cleaner. Abstain from using any tough chemicals as they can strip off the stone's natural texture over time. Also, avoid acidic cleaners as they can cause etching of the surface and damage its exterior.
  • Take prompt action for spills: Clean up wine, vinegar and citrus juice spills immediately to prevent staining. Blot with a soft absorbent material or paper tissue to dab the excess liquid. Don’t clean forcefully as it can spread the stain and extend the damage.
  • Avoid scrubbing: Hard washing natural stones is not recommended. Use a smooth cloth or a soft brush for cleaning. Avoid scrubbing with rough cleaning pads, as they can scrap the stone and damage its natural surface over time.
  • Reseal Periodically: Limestone needs periodic resealing to retain its gorgeous look and lustre. Depending on the type of Limestone, where it is installed and the amount of foot traffic your area receives, you may need to reseal the stone every 1-2 years. Follow the sealer’s instructions or seek professional help for perfect results.
  • Safeguard from heavyweights: Limestone is a durable stone, but it is not recommended to drop heavy objects or drag furniture across its surface to prevent chipping or cracking over time. Use carpets and mats strategically to preserve and prolong the life of your Limestone pavers and tiles.
  • For outdoor use: If you have Limestone pavers installed outdoors for the patio, backyard, garden or pool areas, ensure that they are of the correct thickness matching the use of the space. Alfresco and patio areas with low foot traffic work with 20mm thickness tiles while heavy-use pool decks and gardens need a thickness of 30mm or more. Also, ensure the right surface finish so that your Limestone pavers can sustain all outdoor conditions smoothly.

By following these installation and maintenance tips, you can keep your Limestone surfaces remarkable, resilient and maintained for decades.

8. Are Limestone Pavers and Tiles easy to clean and maintain?

Limestone is an easy-to-maintain material perfect for bathrooms, kitchens, or other outdoor spaces due to its natural resistance to bacteria and mold. However, its porous nature makes it susceptible to staining so it's important to seal the pavers and tiles properly. Cleaning must be done with mild cleaners and a microfibre mop or soft cloth. For optimal protection, properly install pavers and tiles and seal the stone during installation. To keep your Limestone looking fresh, remember to re-seal the pavers and tiles every 2-3 years. Sealing will also protect it from staining and weathering and keep your pool copes in great condition for a very long time.

10. Will Limestone fade or get heated up in the sun?

We recommend sealing your Limestone periodically to maintain its original texture and colour. Limestone Pavers are comfortable to walk on in sunlight. They naturally deflect light and have a cooling effect.

There are many benefits of using Limestone as a building material for residential and commercial spaces. Our premium quality Limestone is aesthetically pleasing, versatile, durable, environment-friendly, long-lasting and an excellent thermal insulator.

12. What can damage Limestone?

While Limestone is a stunning and durable natural stone material, it reacts with strong substances such as lemon, vinegar, wine and acidic cleaning products. They cause etching on the surface and deplete the stone's natural shine. Always clean the stone with a mild pH-neutral cleaner and avoid harsh or abrasive cleaning tools to keep it looking its best. Resealing Limestone periodically provides added protection to the surface and enhances the life of the stone.

13. What happens when Limestone gets wet?

Limestone is a porous rock. When it gets wet, it absorbs some of the water into its pores. Although, Limestone can handle occasional exposure to water, excessive or prolonged moisture can lead to long-term damage such as staining, chipping, weathering or the growth of mould or algae. Proper sealing can help protect Limestone surfaces from the potential negative effects of water exposure and maintain their appearance and longevity.
