Granite Tiles are available in a wide range of colours, textures and finishes, making them a popular choice for many interior and exterior designs. These tiles have the resilience to withstand heavy foot traffic and daily wear and tear.

Granite Pool Copings

Granite Pool Copings offer an excellent security measure for those using the swimming pool. The copings provide a secure grip, making it easier for swimmers to enter and exit the pool. They also provide a continuous surface and prevent water from splashing out of the pool. Pool Coping in Granite comes in 30 mm thickness and can withstand heavy foot traffic. They provide a durable and aesthetically pleasing solution, offering both safety and peace of mind to pool users.

Granite Pool Copings come in both Drop Edge and Bullnose styles. Drop Edge forms a 90-degree vertical drop, giving the pool a sharp, sleek look. Bullnose Pool Copings on the other hand have rounded edges like the bull’s nose which give a softer look and offer enhanced safety benefits to pool users.

The Pencil Edge forms a 90-degree straight vertical drop, giving the stairs a classy and seamless look. Bullnose Treads on the other hand have beautiful, rounded edges to give a softer look to your space.

Finishes of Granite

Granite comes in a wide range of impeccable finishes, each with its unique appearance and texture. Here are some of the most common finishes of Granite:

  • Polished: polished Granite has a high-gloss, reflective surface. This finish is achieved by buffing Granite Pavers and Tiles with polishing pads. This surface finish is easy to clean, but it can be slippery when wet.
  • Honed: Honed Granite has a matte, satin-like finish that is achieved by grinding and buffing the surface with an abrasive material. This finish is less reflective than Polished Granite and is less prone to scratches and stains.
  • Leathered: Leathered Granite has a textured, matte finish but it’s non-reflective. This finish gives Granite a natural, rustic look and hides fingerprints and watermarks.
  • Brushed: brushed granite has a slightly textured, matte finish that is achieved by brushing the surface with wire brushes. This finish is similar to Leathered Granite but is less pronounced.
  • Sandblasted: This is a type of textured finish that is commonly used in Granite. This finish is achieved by blasting the surface of Granite with high-pressure water and sand, which removes the outer layer of the stone and exposes the natural grains and textures of the stone. It has a rough, non-slip surface that is ideal for outdoor applications.
  • Exfoliated/Flamed: This surface finish is achieved by heating Granite under extreme temperatures. This is what gives the stone its heat-resistant properties and makes it suitable for outdoor paving applications.

Each finish has its own unique look and feel, and the choice of finish will depend on the desired aesthetic and the specific application.

Granite is a natural stone that comes in a wide range of colours, patterns and variations. Some of the most common colours of Granite include:

Overall, Granite is a versatile and practical choice for a variety of interior and exterior applications, offering both aesthetic and functional benefits.

Installation & Maintenance Tips

Being an incredibly robust natural stone, Granite is mostly utilised outdoors including areas such as outdoor kitchens, walkways, pool surrounds and driveways. With simple installation and easy maintenance measures, your Granite surfaces will look their best and last for decades.

Installation Tips

  • Prepare the surface: Ensure that your outdoor space where Granite pavers or tiles will be installed is clean, level and free from stones and debris. A structurally sound base will provide a solid and stable foundation for your Granite stone and prevent stumbling due to uneven surfaces.
  • Application of a top-quality sealer meant especially for outdoor use should be done prior to installation for proper sealing. The sealer helps in shielding against stains from the weather and moisture penetration into the stone.
  • Use a durable adhesive: A strong glue is an essential component when laying pavers or tiles over existing ones or on a wooden substrate. It holds the stone in place and prevents the tiles from shifting over time. Choose a high-binding adhesive suitable for Granite installations for excellent and lasting results.
  • Suitable hold: Evaluate that the base or the structure on which the Granite is going to be laid is strong and can take the weight of the stone.
  • Proper grouting: Select a grout material specifically meant for Granite stone. Avoid using acidic or harsh cleaners before you begin grouting to prevent damage to the stone’s surface. Ensure the tiles or pavers are set properly, wait for at least 24 hours after applying the adhesive for it to dry entirely. After applying the grout, scrape off the extra grout before it starts to set.
  • Sealing: After the grouting process, again apply a penetrating sealer specially designed for Granite. Sealing acts as a shield and safeguards the stone from stains, moisture or any other kind of damage. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions or installers’ recommendations for frequency of application. The general rule of thumb is every 2 years.
  • Allow for natural movement: Due to its intrinsic characteristics, Granite may expand and contract in response to alterations in humidity and temperature. Leave adequate and consistent spacing using a spacer for expansion joints to allow space for this movement.

Maintenance Tips

  • Regular Cleaning: Sweep or vacuum your Granite flooring to keep it in top condition. Don’t let dirt or debris accumulate on the surface. Clean with a soft cloth or sponge and a pH-neutral stone cleaner as and when required. Abstain from using any hard chemicals as they can strip off the stone's natural texture over time.
  • Take prompt action for spills: Clean up wine, vinegar and citrus juice spills immediately to prevent staining. Blot with a soft absorbent material or paper tissue to dab the excess liquid. Don’t clean with force as that can spread the stain and increase the damage.
  • Avoid scrubbing: Hard washing natural stones is not recommended. Use a smooth cloth or a soft brush for cleaning. Avoid scrubbing with rough cleaning pads, as they can scrap the stone and damage its natural surface over time.
  • Reseal Periodically: Granite needs periodic resealing to maintain its dense look and solid structure. Depending on the type of stone, where it is installed and the amount of traffic the specific area receives, you may need to reseal the stone every 1-2 years. Follow the sealer’s instructions or seek professional help for perfect results.
  • For outdoor use: Ensure your Granite pavers installed outdoors are of the correct thickness matching the use of the space. Alfresco and walkway areas with low foot traffic work with 20mm thickness tiles while heavy-use driveways need a thickness of 30mm or more. Also, ensure the right surface finish so that your Granite pavers can sustain all outdoor conditions smoothly.

By following these simple installation and maintenance tips, you can keep your Granite surfaces durable and beautiful for decades.
